EC Faces Defiance at Home

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team had two players in double figures on Wednesday as the Quakers fell 81-56 to Defiance College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) led the Quakers with 14 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game, while Christyan Cooksey (Evansville, IN, Bosse) tossed in 13 points as she finished with a team-high six rebounds.

Brittany Combs (Columbus, OH, Bishop Hartley) added eight points and Amelia Frazier (New Madison, OH, Tri-Village) scored six points. Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) contributed five points and five rebounds.

The Quakers jumped out to an early advantage as they hit their first five shots of the contest. Sneed scored the first basket of the contest and Cooksey hit the next three baskets, which included a pair of 3-pointers.

Long's basket gave the Quakers a 13-6 lead with 16:16 left in the opening period.

Defiance (10-12, 8-7) eventually rallied and went on top 17-15 by the 12:53 mark of the first half.

Later in the frame, Sneed hit a lay-up and followed with a free throw to give the Quakers a 24-23 lead with 8:31 remaining before halftime. From that point, the Yellow Jackets finished the half with a 20-4 run to lead 43-28 at intermission.

In the second half, Defiance was able to pull away for the victory. 

Earlham (0-22, 0-15) visits Hanover College on Saturday for a HCAC game that starts at 1 p.m.
