RICHMOND, Ind. — The victories keep adding up for the Earlham College men's tennis team.
Tuesday, the Quakers survived a cold wind to defeat Central State University 9-0 on the EC Courts for their fifth straight win.
"It is great to get out and perform well even under such harsh conditions," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said. "With the cold temperatures and a brisk wind, it can be hard to get out and get into a rhythm."
The match began with a sweep of doubles.
Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) and
Nabil Parkar (London, England, International) defeated Ali Russell and Amon Russell 8-3 at No. 1.
Johnny Kauffman (Goshen, IN, Bethany Christian) and
George Bouchard (Glen Ellyn, IL, Glenbard South) beat Jude Diegue and Richard Hunt 8-0 at No. 2.
At No. 3,
Matthew Foster (Media, PA, Strat Haven) and
Aditya Mahajan (Ashton, PA, Westtown School) took care of Brian Turner and Leonard Gray 8-0.
In singles,
Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia, Universal) beat Amon Russell 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1. At No. 2, Maisey defeated Ali Russell 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 3,
Scott Lawrence (Letchworth, England, Cheam) blanked Demarus Prather 6-0, 6-0.
Mike Von Vogt (South Bristol, ME, Lincoln Academy) beat Diegue 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
Kauffman beat Hunt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Bouchard posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Turner at No. 6.
"The guys went out and took care of business," Van Zee said. "We will move on to our next match against a very strong opponent in Calvin College. We are on a winning streak now, but will have to bring our "A" game if we want to have a shot against Calvin."
Earlham (8-2) entertains Calvin on Friday. The match on the EC Courts gets underway at 4 p.m.
