FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Earlham College women's tennis team opened the season on Saturday with a visit to Franklin College.
The Grizzlies (2-1, 1-0) won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match 6-3 with the Quakers winning twice in singles and once in doubles.
Olivia Engle (Richmond, IN, Richmond) and
Bailey Hall (Muncie, IN, Central) teamed up at No. 2 doubles to beat Adrian Gillaspy and Rain Turley
8-5.
In singles, Engle defeated Heather Pasek 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while
Jessica Childs (North Dighton, MA, Dighton-Rehoboth) won 6-1, 6-2 over Turley at No. 3.
The wins in singles pleased Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee.
"They both reversed decisions from last year against an opponent who beat them and that was very good," Van Zee said.
Earlham (0-1, 0-1) entertains Indiana University East on Tuesday in its home opener. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
