RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team played its first home game of 2012 on Wednesday night as the Quakers fell 84-63 to Bluffton University.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Quakers in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Sneed was just four points away from her career-high total of 30, which she had at Transylvania last season.
Nikki Darrett (Evansville, IN, Bosse) finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) tossed in seven points, while
Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls) added six points.
Bluffton (3-11, 1-6) grabbed an early 7-2 advantage before the Quakers rallied to tie the game at 7-7 when Sneed nailed a 3-pointer at the 15:58 mark of the opening period.
The Beavers scored nine straight points to take a 16-7 lead with 11:15 left in the first half. By intermission, Bluffton led 46-31.
In the second half, the Quakers were able to cut the deficit to 46-36 at the 16:38 mark when Darrett scored. From that point, the Beavers were able to hold off the Quakers.
The Quakers (3-11, 1-6) entertain Hanover College on Saturday. The HCAC contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
