RICHMOND, Ind. — After five straight road contests, the Earlham College women's basketball team fell 63-47 to Wittenberg University Wednesday's home opener on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) and
Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) led the Quakers with 12 points each. Sneed added three assists.
JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) tossed in six points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Heather Hayden (St. Paul, IN, North Decatur) finished with five points, while
Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) grabbed six rebounds.
Emily Sells (Winchester, IN, Winchester) had three assists.
The non-conference contest was tied a few times early before Long gave the Quakers the lead at 10-8 with 11:52 left in the first half.
The Tigers (2-3) scored the next seven points to build a 15-10 margin at the 9:24 mark.
Wittenberg eventually led 32-20 at halftime.
In the second period, the Tigers began with a 13-3 run for a 45-23 advantage with 16:17 left.
The closet the Quakers could get the rest of the way was when Spay hit a pair of free throws to make it 54-45 with 5:31 remaining.
The Quakers (1-5) are back on the road this Saturday at the College of Mount St. Joseph. The Heartland Collegeiate Athletic Conference opener for the Quakers starts at 1 p.m.
