FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team came up just short of a win on Saturday.
Franklin College needed overtime to defeat the Quakers 62-59 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) led the Quakers with 16 points, while
Raven Bryant-Williams (Columbus, OH, Northland) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) finished with nine points and
Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) tossed in eight points.
Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls) pulled down six rebounds.
The Grizzlies led 14-4 early in the contest before the Quakers started the road back.
With 2:42 left in the first half, Long scored to tie the contest at 22-22.
On their next possession, the Quakers took a 25-22 lead when Sneed hit a 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining.
After the teams exchanged turnovers, Franklin was able to tie the game at 25-25 by halftime.
In the second half, Bryant-Williams scored to make it 27-27 at 19:14 before the Grizzlies scored four points in a row to go on top 31-27 at 18:03.
Franklin was able to build a 48-37 advantage with 6:55 remaining in regulation before the Quakers rallied.
An 18-point run put the Quakers in front 55-48. During the stretch, a 3-pointer by Sneed gave the gave the Quakers a 49-48 lead with 4:17 left in the second half.
The Grizzlies (6-2, 2-1) were able to bounce back and tie the contest at 56-56 by the end of regulation to set up the extra session.
Earlham (1-8, 0-3) is back in action next Saturday against Anderson University on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center. The HCAC affair starts at 1 p.m.
