RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team had three players in double figures on Saturday as the Quakers fell 73-60 to the College of Mount St. Joseph.
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) led the Quakers with 20 points and four assists in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls) tossed in a 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while
Danielle Altman (Carthage, IN, Knightstown) added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Mount St. Joseph (5-18, 5-11) began the game with a 7-2 advantage by the 16:28 mark of the opening period.
The Quakers were able to respond to tie the contest at 9-9 when Altman hit a pair of free throws at 13:56.
When Sneed scored to cap a 7-4 Earlham run the Quakers were on top 16-13 with 10:56 on the clock.
The Lions followed with seven straight points to go in front 20-16 with 9:28 remaining in the first half.
From that point, the Lions were able to maintain their edge and lead 34-26 by intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers started with an 8-2 that ended with
Emily Sells (Winchester, IN, Winchester) scoring to make it 38-34 with 17:06 left.
Mount St. Joseph was able to build its margin 13 points before the Quakers closed the gap again to 55-49 when Altman scored with 6:22 remaining. The Quakers were able to keep the contest close until the final moments.
The Quakers (3-20, 1-15) return to action on Wednesday at home against the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The HCAC game begins at 7:30 p.m.
