EC Travels to Defiance

Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College women's basketball team had three players in double figures on Wednesday night as the Quakers fell 70-57 at Defiance College in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.

Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) led the Quakers with 11 points, while Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls) scored 10 points. Long finished with five rebounds and Brown had seven.

Nikki Darrett (Evansville, IN, Bosse), Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University), Princess Darnell (Greenwood, IN, Bishop Chatard), Danielle Altman (Carthage, IN, Knightstown) and JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) scored six points each. Darrett had a team-high nine rebounds with Sneed leading the way with six assists.

The Quakers grabbed an early 4-0 lead after Darrett scored at 17:55 of the opening stanza.

Defiance (10-10, 8-7) answered with seven straight points to go on top 7-4 with 15:18 on the clock.

Darnell scored to make it 9-7 at 14:00 before Altman made it 11-9 with 12:55 left in the first half.

The Yellow Jackets went on a 9-0 run to lead 18-11 at 9:49. Although the Quakers were able to cut the deficit, Defiance led 30-26 at halftime.

In the second half, Defiance scored the first six points to go in front 36-26 with 17:32 left to play in the contest.

Defiance was able to keep its lead despite the Quakers closing the gap to 51-46 when Long scored at the 6:28 mark.

From that point, the Yellow Jackets were able to hold on for the victory.  

Earlham (3-19, 1-14) face the College of Mount St. Joseph at home on Saturday. The HCAC game gets underway on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center at 1 p.m.
