DAYTON, Ohio — One goal accomplished.
The Earlham College men's tennis team achieved one of its goals on Wednesday as the Quakers defeated Transylvania University 9-0 to claim the regular season Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship.
"It was a great win for us," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said. "We reached one of our goals, but we still have a lot more to do for the conference tournament."
The Quakers are now 17-1 and finish the spring with a perfect 9-0 mark in the HCAC. The Pioneers are 8-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
For Earlham, the victory clinched a second straight regular season HCAC crown after the Quakers shared it a year ago. The 17 wins also equals last year's victory total. In 2011, the Quakers were 17-4 and won the conference tournament title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
The win also means that the Quakers earn the top seed in the upcoming HCAC Tournament that will be in Indianapolis on May 5-6 at the West Indy Racquet Club.
