DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College women's tennis team won its second straight match on Wednesday as the Quakers defeated Defiance College 7-2.
The Quakers led 3-0 after the doubles competition in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest with the Yellow Jackets (0-3, 0-1).
Earlham's
Olivia Engle (Richmond, IN, Richmond) and
Claire Welsh (Ann Arbor, MI, Pioneer) teamed up to beat Kirsten Weiland and Katie Savage 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Jessica Childs (Rehoboth, MA, Dighton-Rehoboth) and
Kayla Parks (Elmhurst, IL, York) picked up an 8-6 victory over Tasha Brown and Danielle LaBarbara at No. 2.
At No. 3,
Maya Cooper (Indianapolis, IN, North Central) and
Joanne Huang (Beau Bassin, Mauritius, International) won by default over Maria Weber and Bethany Brown.
In singles play, Engle defeated Weiland 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Welsh earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Savage at No. 2.
Childs won 6-4, 6-0 over Brown at No. 3. Parks won by default over Weber at No. 6.
Earlham (2-1, 1-1) entertains Bluffton University on Saturday. The HCAC affair begins at 10 a.m.
