RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Earlham College women's tennis team battled throughout the lineup on Saturday but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Rose-Hulman in a tightly contested match at home.
Earlham secured the doubles point with strong performances early.
Natalee McCann and
Paige Hobbs earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Vanessa Akuaku and
Lawrencia Manu followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 2.
In singles play, the Quakers continued to compete with intensity.
Vanessa Akuaku delivered a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Lawrencia Manu followed with a hard-fought straight-set victory at No. 2 (6-3, 7-6), showing composure in a tight second set.
Several matches came down to key moments, including a couple of tight sets that went the other way at no. 4 singles, a three-set battle at No. 3 and a grueling contest at No. 6 that went to a final set. Rose-Hulman was able to edge out the remaining points.
The Quakers will look to avenge this loss in the conference tournament the first weekend of May.
