DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College women's basketball team had four players in double figures on Wednesday against Defiance College as the Quakers fell 66-57.
Emily Sells (Winchester, IN, Winchester) and
Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) topped the Quakers with 11 points and three assists each in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.
JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) and
Kiara Scott (Indianapolis, IN, North Central) scored 10 points apiece. Watt also had four assists.
Jazmynne Cunningham (Springfield, OH, North) led the Quakers with six rebounds and
Raven Bryant-Williams (Columbus, OH, Northland) added five rebounds.
Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls) gave the Quakers an early 8-2 advantage when scored at 16:19 of the first half.
Defiance (10-6, 7-2) scored the next seven points to go on top 9-8 by the 14:23 mark.
The game was tied twice before the Yellow Jackets led 25-22 with 4:59 left.
Scott scored to tie the contest at 25-25 as part of a 10-point run for the Quakers to end the half as they led 32-25 by intermission.
In the second half, Sells began the frame with a 3-pointer to give Earlham a 35-25 lead with 19:22 to go.
The Yellow Jackets responded with a 13-2 run to take a 38-37 lead with 14:06 remaining.
Scott drilled a 3-pointer to put the Quakers in front 44-42 with 10:26 left. Defiance then scored 10 points in a row to lead 52-44 with 6:34 on the clock. The Yellow Jackets were able to maintain that advantage the rest of the way.
The Quakers (2-14, 1-8) return home on Saturday for a conference contest against Franklin College. The HCAC game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center starts at 1 p.m.
