ANDERSON, Ind. — A late run by Anderson University hurt the Earlham College women's basketball team on Saturday as the Quakers fell 63-56.
After
JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy) scored to give the Quakers a 51-49 advantage with 4:40 left in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest, the Ravens (5-14, 4-8) scored 10 straight points to over the next three minutes to take a 59-51 lead that they would hold the rest of the way.
Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) led the Quakers with 14 points and five assists.
Emily Sells (Winchester, IN, Winchester) tossed in 10 points.
Watt finished with eight points, six rebounds and eight steals. The steal total is one off the Earlham record of nine that was set by Shannon Ferguson in 1994 and tied by Bettena Adams in 1996.
Anderson started the contest with a 17-10 lead at the 10:45 mark of the opening period before the Quakers rallied.
Jazmynne Cunningham (Springfield, OH, North) scored and followed with a free throw at 4:14 to tie the game at 21-21.
The Ravens eventually responded to lead 26-25 by intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers built a 36-31 lead when Spay scored with 14:32 left. The game was eventually tied at 49-49, which set the stage for the late run by Anderson.
The Quakers (3-16, 2-10) visit Transylvania University on Wednesday. The HCAC affair gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
