Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ohio â€" The Earlham College women's basketball team finished its weekend action by being declared the champions of the Charles Zimmerman Classic, which was hosted by Wittenberg University.

With a 91-74 victory over Brescia University on Saturday, the Quakers ended the event with two wins to claim the title.

"We are very happy to leave this tournament at 2-0," Earlham Head Coach Melissa Johnson said. "This allowed us to finish 2013 with a .500 record and a three-game winning streak."

Earlham is now 5-5 overall and the three wins in a row are the most since the 2002-03 season when Johnson was a senior player for the Quakers. That year, the Quakers won five straight as they finished the season at 13-11.

"Every game we set foot on the court we are looking to get better as a team," Johnson said. "While this game was not one of our best, we still figured out a way to win. We had some great individual shooting performances and a lot of players contribute to this victory."

Named the Charles Zimmerman Classic Most Valuable Player, Kasin Spay continued her scoring spree with 32 points as she surpassed her previous career-high total of 28, which was against St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Dec. 19. The 32-point effort was the most by an Earlham player since Bria Sneed had 30 points at Transylvania University on Feb. 16, 2011.

Sneed, who was also named to the all-tournament team, had 17 points on Saturday to increase her career total to 975 as she looks to join the 1,000-point club.

Lexi McFarland had the best scoring effort of her career with 19 points, while handing out four assists.

To add to the career-high theme of the day, Raven Bryant-Williams grabbed 12 rebounds to equal her best total that she had at Franklin College last season.

From the start of the contest, the Quakers worked their way to an 18-10 advantage by the 14:01 mark when McFarland hit a 3-pointer.

Brescia was able to answer and eventually go on top 26-25 with 7:09 left in the first half.

The Quakers responded quickly on their next possession when Spay drilled a trey to make it 28-26 with 7:01 remaining.

After Brescia tied the game at 28-28, McFarland hit another 3-pointer to give the Quakers a 31-28 lead at 4:52. Earlham was able to maintain that edge to lead 41-35 at the intermission.

In the second half, Spay scored three of Earlham's first four baskets as the Quakers led 49-39 with 15:22 left to play.

Brescia was able to close the gap to 68-60 with 6:50 remaining, but the Quakers put the game away from that point.

Earlham returns to the court next Saturday as the Quakers resume play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a trip to Franklin College at 1 p.m.
