Quakers Win Second Straight

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. â€" A five-minute stretch in the first half was just the boost the Earlham College women's basketball team needed on Wednesday night as the Quakers beat Bluffton University 67-38.

With the score tied at 12-12 with 8:17 left in the first half of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair, the Quakers scored the next 12 points to build a 24-12 lead. Kasin Spay scored at the 3:01 mark to finish the run that saw the Quakers force 10 turnovers for the Beavers (2-4, 0-1).

The Quakers finished the opening stanza with a 32-19 advantage and they were on their way to a second straight victory on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

In the second period, Earlham's tough defense continued as the Quakers were able to put the game away by expanding their margin to 59-28 after JaLissa Watt scored with 10:51 left to play.

"I am extremely proud of our overall effort and intensity," Earlham College Head Coach Melissa Johnson said. "With this being our first conference game, we wanted to make a statement to everyone."

Spay led the Quakers with 19 points and six steals, while Watt added 10 points and four steals to the balanced attack that had nine different players scoring. Bria Sneed tossed in nine points and Maya Luney finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Hannah Franklin, Lexi McFarland and Kiara Scott had six points each.

"This was a total team win, but the celebration will be short as we get back to work to prepare for Manchester University," Johnson said.
