RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College women's basketball team had its two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Quakers fell 61-57 to Manchester University.
The Quakers had three players in double figures against the Spartans (3-3, 2-0) in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Raven Bryant-Williams led the Quakers with 14 points and six rebounds. Bria Sneed tossed in 12 points, while Kasin Spay finished with 11 points. Hannah Franklin added nine points.
Manchester grabbed an early 9-2 advantage by 14:24 in the first half.
"We really pride ourselves in being disciplined and working hard, and we didn't do that in the first half," Earlham Head Coach Melissa Johnson said. "We went away from everything that made us successful in our last game."
"We do have spurts of greatness, but again, we are a young team," Johnson added. "I think we have moments where we look really good, and sometimes we have moments where it obviously shows we still need to improve."
By the 3:42 mark of the opening stanza, the Spartans led 37-18. The Quakers started the road back into the game and by halftime they trailed 39-29.
At the midway point of the second period, the Quakers had cut the deficit to 45-39 after a basket by Bryant-Williams.
Eventually, the Quakers came all the way and took the lead. Spay scored to tie the contest 47-47 with 4:46 left. She was fouled on the play and then hit a free throw to give the Quakers a 48-47 lead.
Moments later, Sneed canned a pair of free throws to put the Quakers in front 50-49 with 4:06 left. Unfortunately for the Quakers, that was the last time they led.
The Quakers (2-4, 1-1) return to action next Saturday at Hanover College. The HCAC contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
