RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team battled Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance College on Wednesday night but came up short 58-47.
Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) topped the Quakers with 12 points in the contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) and
Raven Bryant-Williams (Columbus, OH, Northland) added eight points each. Bryant-Williams led the Quakers with six rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets (13-9, 10-5) took an early 8-4 lead by the 15:30 mark of the first half.
The Quakers were able to fight back and tie the contest at 15-15 when Spay scored with 10:33 left in the opening stanza.
Defiance eventually was able to respond to hold a 30-24 lead by intermission.
In the second half, Defiance worked its way to a 39-27 advantage with 14:23 remaining in the affair.
Watt pulled the Quakers to within 39-35 with a basket at 9:44.
Defiance scored the next seven points to go on top 46-35 with 6:38 left. The Yellow Jackets were able to maintain their distance the rest of the way to earn the win.
Earlham (3-19, 2-13) returns home on Saturday to face the College of Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
