Quakers Win on Senior Day

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — Saturday was Senior Day for the Earlham College women's basketball team as three members of the squad were playing their final home game.

The Quakers celebrated with a 77-69 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

"I am so unbelievably proud of this team," Earlham Head Coach Melissa Johnson said. "We wanted this game so badly for our seniors."

Karmell Brown (Columbus, OH, Columbus School for Girls), Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) and Natasha Norman (St. Louis, MO, Vashon) were on the court for the final time at Earlham.

"All three have made immeasurable contributions to our program," Johnson said. "The last four years have not always been easy for this class of seniors but they are setting the tome for what is to come in the future."

After suffering a season-ending knee injury back in December, Norman started the contest. The Quakers allowed Mount St. Joseph to score the first basket of the game and then the Lions returned the favor by letting Norman make the final shot of her career before retuning to the bench.

When the action resumed the contest was tied at 10-10 with 14:31 gone in the opening period.

The Quakers grabbed a 20-12 lead when Emily Sells (Winchester, IN, Winchester) scored at the 11:05 mark.

The Lions battled back to close the gap to 22-21 with 7:59 to go. By halftime, the Quakers were on top 38-37.

In the second half, the Quakers fell behind 46-42 at the 15:52 mark before they responded with 14 straight points to go back on top.

When JaLissa Watt (St. Louis, MO, St. Elizabeth Academy ) scored with 10:42 remaining, the Quakers led 56-46.

Mount St. Joseph (3-20, 2-14) was able to answer and the Lions eventually held a 62-61 lead with 5:52 on the clock.

Raven Bryant-Williams (Columbus, OH, Northland) scored on Earlham's next possession to give the Quakers the lead for good at 63-62 with 5:29 left to play.

The Quakers were able to hold off the Lions the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Kasin Spay (Muncie, IN, Delta) led the Quakers with 22 points, while Kiara Scott (Indianapolis, IN, North Central) tossed in 16 points. Bryant-Willams fininshed with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Earlham (4-19, 3-13) travels to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday for a HCAC affair at 7:30 p.m.
