RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College women's tennis team pulled out a tight match on Monday as the Quakers defeated Indiana-University East 5-4.
Earlham held a 2-1 advantage after the doubles action on the EC Courts.
For the Quakers, Olivia Engle and Claire Welsh won 8-5 over Paige Froman and Chelsea Helms at the No. 1 spot. Jessica Childs and Vesta Davis beat Brittany Hethcox and Jordyn Bowman 8-6 at No. 3.
In singles play for Earlham, Welsh defeated Hinners 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. At No. 4, Childs won 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) over Ketron. Foley beat Estes 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Quakers (2-0) entertain Hanover College on Wednesday. Earlham's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener gets underway at 4 p.m.
