RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College women's basketball team fell to the top squad in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday night as Transylvania University defeated the Quakers 93-82 on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Earlham had four players in double digits with Bria Sneed leading the way with 18 points and six assists. Sneed moved past three players on the Earlham all-scoring list and is now in sixth with 1,078 points in her career.
JaLissa Watt came off the bench to record the first double-double of her career as she scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. She also had five steals.
Maya Luney finished with 12 points, while Hannah Franklin tossed in 10 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.
The contest was tight early when Kasin Spay gave the Quakers a 6-4 lead with a basket at the 17:71 mark of the first half.
After the Pioneers (16-2, 10-1) built a double figure advantage, the Quakers were able to respond. Danielle Altman capped the rally with a pair of free throws to put the Quakers in front 35-33 with 5:22 remaining in the opening stanza.
Transylvania scored the next 11 points as the Pioneers grabbed a 44-35 lead with 2:57 to go. The Pioneers eventually led 56-42 by halftime.
In the second half, the Quakers continued to fight their way back. Two free throws by Sneed cut the deficit to 88-82 with 56 seconds left in the game.
From that point, Transylvania hit 5-of-6 free throws to hold off the Quakers.
The Quakers (8-10, 4-7) are at home on Saturday against the College of Mount St. Joseph. The HCAC affair gets underway at 1 p.m.
