Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team began the season on Saturday with an 88-73 loss to Heidelberg University in the opening round of the Quaker Classic.
Kasin Spay led the Quakers with 17 points and seven rebounds in the contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
JaLissa Watt, Shania Feathers and Lexi McFarland added 10 points each. Hannah Franklin tossed in nine points and had a team-high four assists. Hannah Dyer had eight points.
The contest was close in the early going as Heidelberg built a 16-13 advantage by the midway point of the first half. Heidelberg scored six straight points and led 22-13 with 8:36 left.
After Heidelberg widened its lead to double digits, the Quakers fought back and trailed 38-30 by halftime.
In the second half, the Quakers cut the deficit to six points twice with the final time coming on a basket by Watt at 17:01 to make it 44-38.
The Student Princes (1-0) worked their way back to a double-digit advantage from that point.
Indiana University-East won the first contest of the afternoon with a 74-67 decision over Denison
University (Box Score). The Red Wolves (3-2) meet Heidelberg Sunday at 1 p.m.
Earlham (0-1) faces Denison in the finale of the Quaker Classic on Sunday at 3 p.m.
