RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday as Danielle Altman, Jazmynne Cunningham and Bria Sneed played for the final time on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Franklin College spoiled the party as the Grizzlies posted a 98-76 win over the Quakers in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.
"This senior class has meant so much to the women's basketball program," Earlham Head Coach Melissa Johnson said. "Their work ethic, positive attitudes and coachability have helped turn this program around. I am honored to have had the opportunity to coach them for the past three years."
Despite the loss, the Quakers (11-12, 7-9) held on to the sixth and final post-season spot in the conference standings as Defiance and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology both lost to remain tied for seventh.
The Quakers had three players in double figures against the Grizzlies (13-10, 11-5).
Sneed led the way with 22 points. Sneed now has 1,191 in her career and is closing in on the No. 5 spot on Earlham's all-time scoring list. Tasha Merrill (2005-09) has 1,201 points.
Kasin Spay tossed in 19 points, while Hannah Franklin finished with 14 points.
Lexi McFarland added nine points and four assists. Maya Luney topped the squad with six rebounds.
The game was tight early before Franklin was able to build a 44-31 advantage by intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers were able to cut the defict to 10 points on four occasions with the last coming at the 10:23 mark when Sneed scored to make it 70-60.
Earlham is on the road for the rest of the regular season as the Quakers visit Bluffton University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The regular season final is at Anderson University next Saturday.
