EC Falls at Bluffton

Box Score BLUFFTON, Ohio â€" The Earlham College women's basketball team had four players in double figures on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Quakers dropped an 86-77 decision at Bluffton University.

With the loss, the Quakers (11-13, 7-10) are now tied for sixth place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with Defiance College and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology heading into the regular season finale on Saturday at Anderson University that starts at 1 p.m.

Maya Luney led the Quakers with 19 points on Wednesday, while Kasin Spay and Hannah Franklin finished with 12 points each. Franklin also had eight assists.

Raven Bryant-Williams added 11 points. Jalissa Watt topped the Quakers with seven rebounds and had four assists.

Bria Sneed end the night with seven points. She now has 1,198 in her career and trails fifth place Tasha Merrill (2005-09) on Earlham's all-time scoring list with 1,201.

The Beavers (14-10, 10-7) grabbed an 8-2 lead by the 17:34 mark, but the Quakers were able to answer.

A 3-pointer by Lexi McFarland put the Quakers on top 9-8 with 15:01 left in the opening period.

Bluffton also had an answered as the Beavers eventually built a 32-22 margin at 7:54. Earlham was able to close the gap to 33-32 when Franklin scored at 1:29 before the Beavers finished teh half with four straight points to lead 37-32 at the intermission.

In the second half, Bluffton worked its way to a 62-51 lead midway through the frame.

The Quakers climbed back into the contest a made it 74-73 after Franklin scored with 3:46 remaining, but that was as close as they could get the rest of the way.
