RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College women's tennis team opened its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday with a 9-0 loss to Manchester University.

Anna Gubanova had the tightest contest of the day against the Spartans (1-1, 1-0).

Gubanova fell behind 6-1 after her first set against Katy Ashpole at No. 2 singles. She bounced back to take the second set 6-1. In the tiebreaker Ashpole won 10-6 to take the match.

The Quakers (1-2, 0-1) entertain Transylvania University on Wednesday. The HCAC affair is at 5 p.m.
