Second Half Hurts Quakers

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team hosted Defiance College in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference battle on Wednesday that ended with an 83-64 loss for the Quakers.

Kasin Spay led the Quakers with 23 points with Hannah Franklin adding 14 points and five rebounds against the Yellow Jackets (6-11, 5-4) on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

JaLissa Watt grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and led the squad with four steals.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead, but the Quakers were able to tie the game 15-15 at the 10:17 mark of the first period.

The Quakers (5-11, 2-9) responded with a six-point lead. Defiance eventually went on top 28-27 with 4:13 to go.

Earlham was able to bounce back and after a Kiara Scott free throw, the period ended with the Quakers in the lead 34-31.

Early in the second half, the game was tied for the sixth time at 34-34. From that point, the Yellow

Jackets took command of the contest going on a 12-0 run to make the score 43-34 with just 16:17 left in the game.

With the lead reaching a high of 21 at the 3:46 mark, the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.

Earlham travels to Manchester University for another HCAC matchup on Saturday at 2 p.m.
