Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio — The Earlham College women's basketball team picked up a 67-55 victory over Defiance College on Wednesday as Kasin Spay became the 12th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point total.
Spay needed only eight points to hit the mark and she had nine at halftime. For the night, she finished with 13 points and has 1,005 in her career.
Hannah Dyer led the Quakers with 15 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair against the Yellow Jackets (9-13, 8-7).
Hannah Franklin added 14 points. Mariah Flynn led the squad with 13 rebounds, while JaLissa Watt grabbed 10 rebounds to go with nine points.
After the Yellow Jackets began the contest with a 3-pointer, the Quakers responded with the next 10 points to go on top 10-3 after Spay hit a trey with 16:45 left in the opening frame.
Defiance fought back to trail 18-13 with 11:45 left, but the Quakers again answered with an 11-0 run capped by a basket by Spay to take a 29-13 lead. Spay's basket at the 1:51 mark put her over the 1,000-point plateau.
The Yellow Jackets end the half with the next four points, but the Quakers led 29-17 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers expanded their margin to 48-30 when Dyer scored with 13:29 remaining. Defiance would eventually close the gap to 60-55 with 1:39 to go, but the Quakers finished the game with the final seven points to put the game away.
The Quakers (8-14, 5-10) entertain Franklin College on Saturday. The HCAC contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center starts at 1 p.m.
