Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman opened the fourth quarter on an 11-0 run to give the Fightin' Engineers a 62-49 victory over the Earlham College women's basketball team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) competition on Wednesday.
Rose-Hulman trailed by two entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Earlham 23-8 in the final session for the victory.
The Quakers held a six-point lead after the first quarter (19-13) and at halftime (30-24). Junior Hannah Franklin opened the third quarter with two free throws, giving Earlham its largest lead of the contest, eight points. The Engineers clawed into the deficit converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 17 seconds to play in the third quarter, making the score 42-39.
Then came the 11-0 run that Earlham could not come back from.
Senior Kiara Scott led the Quakers with 13 points and three steals. Senior Kasin Spay and Franklin also finished in double figures. Spay, despite being held to two points in the second half, moved into fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,288 points. The Muncie, Ind., native passing Vicki Painter '00.
Brianna Gliesmann led the Engineers with 14 points off of the bench.
As a team Rose-Hulman shot 44 percent (22-50) from the field compared to 36.2 percent (17-47) for Earlham. The Engineers tallied 38 rebounds while the Quakers grabbed 23 boards.
Earlham returns to action on Saturday at home against Manchester. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
