Women's Basketball Falls at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – Franklin College held the Earlham College women's basketball team scoreless in the opening four minutes of the first three quarters as the Grizzlies defeated the Quakers 74-43 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday.

Franklin opened the game on a 10-0 run on baskets from four different players as well as two free throws from Katie Brewer. Freshman Rachel Wilkins opened the scoring for the Quakers with a layup midway through the first quarter. The Quakers would get within six points (16-10) using baskets from junior Maya Luney and freshman Ashlea Meadows as well as free throws from senior Kasin Spay and sophomore Mariah Flynn.

Franklin would score the final three points of the quarter as the Grizzlies led 19-10 after ten minutes.

Wilkins again scored the first basket for the Quakers in the second quarter, but it came after Franklin scored the first 14 points of the quarter. Flynn would end the half by hitting a three-pointer, but the Grizzlies led 41-21 at the break.

As 12-0 run to begin the third quarter put the game out of reach.

Hannah Franklin led the Quakers with 12 points including a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

Kelsey Smith led Franklin with 16 points. Three other Grizzlies finished in double figures.

Earlham looks for redemption on Wednesday when it travels to Defiance for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
