THE SHORT STORY
Transylvania showed why it holds the no. 15 ranking in both the D3hoops.com and the WBCA Division III women's basketball polls, shooting .475 (29-of-61) from the floor in Monday's win while holding Earlham to a .242 (15-of-62) field goal shooting percentage.
The Pioneers opened the game with a 6-0 lead before senior Camryn White got the Quakers on the scoreboard with a pair of foul shots. Transy's advantage reached 12 points, 18-6, late in the first quarter, before a Maddy Krodel layup in the waning seconds cut the margin to 10 points, 22-12, through 10 minutes of play.
First-year Cambie Poole brought Earlham to within eight points, 25-17, with 7:29 to play in the second quarter, but that would cap the Quakers' scoring for the frame. Transylvania went on a 12-0 run over the remainder of the quarter and held a 37-17 lead at halftime.
Transy continued to pull away from Earlham in the third quarter, outscoring the Quakers 13-4 over the final seven minutes of the period to extend the Pioneers' lead to 52-28 after 30 minutes of play. Earlham put up 14 points in the fourth quarter, but Transy still outscored the Quakers over the final 10 minutes on its way to completing the victory.
