MEADVILLE, P.A. -- The Earlham College field hockey team opened its 2021 North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a 2-1 win over Allegheny College on Saturday.
The Quakers improved to 10-1 (1-0 NCAC) while the Gators fell to 5-5 (0-2 NCAC).
Denise Bergdolt scored both of the Quaker goals in the victory.
Bergdolt struck first in the 11th minute off of the familiar play of a penalty corner from
Molly McKellar.
Both teams had a single opportunity on goal in the second and third quarters.
Allegheny scored an equalizing goal in the 52nd minute off of a deflection from a penalty corner.
Exactly one minute later, McKellar took another penalty corner where she found the stick of Bergdolt who took the shot on goal.
Meg Murphy recorded two saves in goal.
Earlham trailed in shots 7-5 but all of the Quakers' shots were on target compared to just three for the Gators.
Earlham will play again tomorrow against Oberlin College. The contest is scheduled for noon.
