BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The Earlham College women's soccer team gained a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Bluffton University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Quakers improved to 2-9 (1-4 HCAC) while the Beavers fell to 4-8 (1-4).
Jenna Hoeh scored her first goal of the season in the ninth minute of play. She was sent long into Beaver territory on a pass from
Nicole Burkett. Hoeh turned back toward the center of the field from the left corner and unleashed a strike that sailed over the outstretched goalkeeper.
Later in the half, the Beavers equalized on a breakaway chance.
Becca Hancock came off her line to challenge the play, but the Beaver offense slotted the ball around her. The shot hit the inside edge of the goalpost and bounced in.
In the 51st minute, Hoeh stepped up to take a corner kick for the Quakers. Her kick found the head of
Tess Cunningham who was able to redirect the ball into the goal for the game-winning score.
Earlham trailed slightly in shots (18-16) and fell behind in corner kicks (6-2)
Cunningham took the most shots for the Quakers at four, and she put three of those attempts on frame.
Hancock collected seven saves for her first goalkeeping win of the season.
Earlham travels to Manchester University this weekend to continue HCAC play. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the men's game will follow at 3:30.
