RICHMOND -- The Earlham College field hockey team is on the brink of having its best season in program history for the 2021 campaign. The Quakers are now one win away from tying the program record after a 2-1 victory over the College of Wooster on Saturday.
The Quakers improved to 12-1 (3-0 NCAC) while the Scots fell to 5-6 (1-3 NCAC).
Regan Seeman scored in just the fourth minute of play for the EC offense. A
Molly McKellar penalty corner went to
Denise Bergdolt who ripped a low shot into the Scots defense. A defender bounced the shot into the air where Seeman collected the ball with her stick and brought it down behind the Wooster goalkeeper for an open shot.
Shortly before halftime, the Scots scored an equalizing goal off of a similar penalty corner play.
The teams went into halftime locked at 1-1, though Earlham had taken five more shots than the visitors.
Shortly after subbing back into the game,
Jalyn Kelsey scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 38th minute. Earlham carried up an attack down the right side of the field where Bergdolt found herself with possession. The senior from Mannheim, Germany found Kelsey on the back side of the goal and slotted her a pass that threw the Wooster goalkeeper off guard where Kelsey could then take the shot on goal.
The Quakers led 15-5 in shots and placed nine of their attempts on frame. McKellar was kept busy with six penalty corners in the game.
Meg Murphy collected three saves in goal.
The Quakers will be back at it again tomorrow as Kenyon College comes to Darrell Beane Stadium at 1 p.m.
