RICHMOND -- The Earlham College field hockey team continued its 2021 season with a 6-0 win over Oberlin College on Homecoming.
The Quakers improved to 10-1 while the Yeowomen fell to 0-9.
Denise Bergdolt was an offensive powerhouse with one goal and three assists.
The senior from Manhein, Germany scored the opening goal of the contest in the seventh minute of play. The Quakers had a penalty corner which was taken by
Molly McKellar. McKellar's pass to Bergolt was accurate and gave her time to set up for a shot on goal, which she placed well for the score.
Guin Schalck scored the next goal for the Quakers two minutes into the second quarter with an assist from Bergdolt.
Bergdolt tallied another assist in the 36th minute when she assisted Reiley Swislosky after a flurry of Earlham shots.
The Quakers managed to score three goals in the fourth quarter. The first of which came in the 51st minute of play after a penalty corner. McKellar's pass ended up with a bouncing ball after some quick Earlham shots. Amidst the chaos,
Rorey Murphy managed to find the back of the net for a score.
Meredith McGraw earned a penalty stroke for the Quakers just 30 seconds after Murphy's score. McGraw beat the Oberlin goalkeeper to increase the Quaker lead.
Earlham scored a final goal in the last minute of play.
Regan Seeman found space down the left sideline and sent a cross in to Bergdolt. Bergdolt then laid off a pass to Schalck for her second goal of the game.
The Earlham defense did not allow a single shot on
Meg Murphy.
The Quakers will be back in action at Allegheny next Saturday, Earlham will have a repeat contest with Oberlin on Sunday.
