LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Earlham College men's soccer team continued its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-1 loss at Transylvania University.
The Quakers fell to 0-14 (0-7 HCAC) while the Pioneers improved to 4-7-2 (2-4-1 HCAC).
Transy scored just under three minutes into the contest after a crossing ball and a shot coming after a bouncing ball in the penalty area.
The Quakers scored an equalizing goal in the 48th minute when Drew Fitzgibbon got loose on the far side of the field and ripped a low shot at the Pioneer goal. The goalkeeper made the save on the initial shot but did not hold onto the ball and
Kevin Arias followed up and scored the tap-in goal.
Less than a minute later, the Pioneers retaliated and scored a go-ahead goal from a fast break opportunity where Transy pushed numbers forward into the attack.
The Pioneers added a final goal in the 78th minute of play.
Earlham was out-shot 20-11 (14-5 on goal) and lost out in corner kicks 4-3.
Tyler Smith put up an incredible effort in goal with 11 saves on the evening.
The Quakers will be back in Matlack-Messer Stadium on Saturday for senior day and Pride Games in conjunction with the women's team. The men's contest against Mount St. Joseph will kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
