RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's soccer team honored 10 graduating seniors with senior day festivities on the pitch at Matlack-Messer Stadium on Saturday afternoon against.
The match resulted in a 3-1 loss by the Quakers for their final home game of the 2021 season to the Lions of Mount St. Joseph University.
The Quakers fell to 0-15 (0-8 HCAC) while the Lions improved to 3-13 (2-6 HCAC).
The Lions scored two goals in the 16th minute of play. First, a header off of a corner kick. Then the Lions stole the kickoff after the goal and marched down the field for the score less than 10 seconds later.
A third Mount St. Joseph goal came in the second half near the 64 minute mark off of a long shot past the diving
Henry Wildes.
Earlham scored a consolation goal in the 85th minute from
Kevin Arias. Defender
Nic Wilson dribbled down into the right side corner where he turned and sent a cross into the Lion's penalty area.
Jack Johnson made a heel-pass on the ball to slide it further across the goal to Arias who placed his shot well to beat the MSJ goalkeeper.
Tyler Smith made one save in his start at goalkeeper while Wildes collected five saves in the second half.
Earlham held a slight lead in shots (15-14) but was less effective in placing its shots on target (5-9).
The Quakers will play on the road at Defiance for their final game of the 2021 season on Wednesday. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
