Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer falls in double overtime

ANDERSON -- The Earlham College men's soccer team fell in overtime to Anderson University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday.

The Quakers fell to 0-10 (0-3 HCAC) while the Ravens improved to 4-6-2 (1-0-2 HCAC).

For the third time this season, the Quakers scored first. Patrick Elster got the ball near midfield after a throw in. Elster played a long ball toward the Anderson goal, looking for a service. In the clutter of the penalty area, his pass managed to bounce past the Ravens goalkeeper and roll into the back of the net.

The Ravens scored an equalizing goal in the 69th minute. Anderson took a cross from the right side of the field. An Anderson player got on the reception of the cross and tried to get a shot off but was stopped by a Quaker. Anderson had a second attacker following behind though, who was able to collect the loose ball and form a shot on goal for the equalizer.

Deadlocked at the end of 90 minutes, the game went to golden-goal overtime. Earlham survived the first overtime period, but the Quakers were put away midway through the second period.

An Anderson player got sent on a long breakaway, he narrowly beat Tyler Smith to the ball on the run. After gaining control near the corner, he made a back pass to another Raven who dribbled into the penalty area and scored on a low shot to the left post.

Earlham was out-shot 21-6 and trailed 6-2 in corner kicks.

Smith collected 10 saves in goal.

Earlham will be on the road again this weekend as the Quakers travel to Franklin College on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m., immediately following the women's contest.
