RICHMOND -- The Earlham College men's basketball team scored its first win of the 2021-22 season with a 94-85 showing over Adrian College on Wednesday evening.
The Quakers improve to 1-2 while the Bulldogs fall to 1-2.
Jaden Terry led the scoring efforts with 24 points and a 5-for-7 3-point line.
Zachariah Andre recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
After establishing an early lead, the Quakers held a 10-point advantage over the Bulldogs throughout the entirety of the first half. A 13-2 run which was boosted by a pair of Terry 3-pointers helped vault Ealrham ahead early on.
The Quakers enjoyed a successful half of shooting with 54% of field goals and 66% of 3-pointers hitting their mark in the first 20 minutes.
Adrian came out of the locker room with a change of pace and went on a 17-2 run that lasted 6:30 to come back into contention and take a lead over Earlham for the first time since the opening minutes.
Before Adrian could hold any kind of lead in the contest, the Quakers sprung back into action. A pair of layups gave Earlham a 1-point lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the contest. With time running down, the Bulldogs began fouling more on the Quaker offense, which made their free throws at a 73% mark in the second half of play.
With just under one minute remaining, Earlham led 86-78. A Terry steal led to a layup from
Tommy Makabu to make the advantage 10 points for Earlham. After Adrain scored on its next possession, the Quakers broke out of the full-court press without being fouled to burn off valuable clock time and extend their lead. After a
Jordan Goodson layup, the Quakers led 90-80 with 36 seconds remaining.
As Adrian fouled in the closing seconds to stop the clock, Earlham remained accurate from the line and held out for the win, which will hopefully bring some momentum into conference play next weekend.
Earlham will travel to Chicago next Wednesday for a 7 pm contest with North Park before beginning HCAC action with Manchester next Saturday in Druley Performance Gym.
