RICHMOND -- The Earlham College women's basketball team preps for its 2021-22 season with new faces on the court and the coaching staff.
THE SCHEDULE
After a conference-only slate last year, the HCAC has allowed non-conference games for this season. The Quakers begin their season with a home contest against Olivet College on Monday evening. After five non-conference matchups, culminating in the Quaker Bowl rivalry game with Wilmington College on November 30, the HCAC season begins with a home contest with Manchester on December 4. Two non-conference games provide action during the holiday break and The Quakers return to action on New Years Day with Franklin coming to Druley Performance Gym. The remaining games are on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons as the Quakers finish their HCAC slate.
THE PROTOCOLS
Gameplay remains unaffected but there are important guidelines for fans. All entrants to the Athletics and Wellness Center at Earlham will be required to properly wear a face mask while inside the building, regardless of vaccination status.
SEASON OUTLOOK
Four Quakers were labeled as "Players to Watch" by the HCAC.
Kinzi Brooks,
Alexis Gibson,
Amy Stewart and
Neely Trenshaw were all designated with this honor.
Brooks averaged nine minutes per game last season as a sophomore earning time on the varsity court. She collected five rebounds and tallied one steal in 2020-21.
Gibson is a first year player from Jeffersonville. The forward comes to Earham from Jeffersonville High School and will be competing for minutes as a freshman this season.
Stewart grabbed nine rebounds and scored 11 points in her debut season last year for the Quakers. With a year of experience under her belt now she will look to be a consistent threat.
Trenshaw leads the Quaker returners in points and rebounds from last season. The junior from Nappanee scored 32 points and collected 19 defensive boards in her previous season and averaged just shy of 25 minutes per game.
THE COACHES
Along with fresh faces on the court, Earlham brings two new coaches to the sidelines for this season.
Shanna Thompson comes to Earlham from Illinois College where she served as an assistant for two years. Thompson has previously coached at HCAC rival Bluffton University.
Joining Thompson for the season will be
Kara Wilson who takes on the role of assistant coach after finishing cer playing career at Ball State University.
