Final Score: Rose-Hulman 74, Earlham 56
Location: Richmond, Indiana – Druley Performance Gym

RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College senior Jamel Barnes Jr. finished the afternoon with 27 points, putting him over the 1,000-career points threshold for his career, but even that effort was not enough to lead the Quakers past visiting Rose-Hulman in a 74-56 loss to the Fightin' Engineers on Sunday afternoon at Druley Performance Gym.

Barnes became the 27th player in Earlham men's basketball history to score 1,000 points after converting a layup attempt off a steal at the 6:54 mark of the first half, pulling the Quakers to within three, 26-23. He finished the day 8-of-17 from the field with one 3-pointer, and 10-of-10 at the free-throw line.

Earlham knotted the game at 26-26 shortly after on an AJ White 3-point jumper with 5:19 showing on the first half clock.

Rose-Hulman held Earlham scoreless over the remainder of the frame with a 15-0 run that put the Engineers in front, 41-26, at the halftime break.

The Engineers began to slowly pull away from the Quakers over the course of the second half, eventually leading by 25, 65-40, with just under 10 minutes to play in the game.

Tommy Makabu finished with nine points and three assists, while Jordan Stolle tallied five points. Josh Ozanne tallied five rebounds, leading an Earlham squad that was outworked 41-29 on the boards.

Dillon Duff tallied 15 points and eight rebounds for Rose-Hulman while Craig McGee finished with 11 points.

Earlham men's basketball (1-7) drew the no. 9 seed for the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, and will face no. 8 seed Anderson University (7-3) in the opening round this weekend. Date and time for that game will be announced later this week.
