RICHMOND, Indiana – Second year attackman
Sam Sargent scored twice and added two assists to lead Earlham men's lacrosse offensively in a 19-6 loss to visiting Taylor University, in the Quakers' 2021 season opener on Monday night at Darrell Beane Stadium.
Taylor rattled off eight straight goals to open the contest before Earlham got on the scoreboard on Sargent's unassisted score with 3:29 remaining in the opening quarter. The score was 11-3 in the Trojans' favor at the halftime break, with third year attackman
Logan Reihing notching the Quakers' second goal, and Sargent adding his second of the night with 6:55 showing on the second quarter clock.
Reihing found the back of the Taylor goal with 2:07 left in the third quarter for his second strike of the night, and
Cameron Jackson and
Kevin Ventura added single markers before the end of the contest.
Taylor outshot Earlham, 60-22, and had 46 ground balls to the Quakers' 33. Earlham goalie
Steven Shaughnessy finished the game with 12 saves while Taylor goalies Kyle Mongoven and Austin Cochrane combined for five saves in the Trojans' goal.
Earlham men's lacrosse will be on the road for its next contest when the Quakers travel to Greencastle, Indiana, to face DePauw University on Saturday, March 6. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
