RICHMOND, Indiana –
Rafi Ul Azam's blast from just inside the six-yard lifted Earlham College men's soccer to a 2-1 win over Anderson University, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Darrell Beane Stadium.
The win was the Quakers' first over Anderson since the 2015 season, and just the second since Earlham joined the HCAC in 2010.
Ul Azam buried a cross from
Quentin Berry just inside the near post in the 74th minute, giving Earlham a 2-1 lead over Anderson.
The Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the waning seconds of the first half on
Caleb Wilgen's unassisted goal. Earlham held the lead until the 60th minute when Regan Frost beat charging Quaker keeper
Tyler Smith for a wide-open breakaway goal.
Anderson had an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal, with Smith recording four saves in the game. The Ravens also enjoyed the upper-hand in corner kicks with seven, to the Quakers' four.
Earlham men's soccer continues its two-game home stand on Saturday, March 13, when it hosts Manchester University. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Darrell Beane Stadium.
