Women’s soccer triumphs over Manchester, 2-1

RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College women's soccer struck once in each half on its way to a 2-1 win over visiting Manchester University, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at Darrell Beane Stadium.

The win was the fourth straight victory for the Quakers over the Spartans, and marked the first Earlham win for first-year Head Coach Stephanie Webb.

Sophomore Jenna Hoeh put Earlham on the scoreboard in the 17th minute with her unassisted goal, the fifth goal of her career.

Senior Yana Miller doubled the Quakers' lead in the 55th minute, heading home a ball from inside the six-yard box by the far post off a well-placed cross from Hannah Wallhausser. The goal was Miller's 16th career score for Earlham.

Manchester's Morgan Mauk pulled the Spartans to within one goal of the Quakers in the 86th minute, scoring off a corner kick with an assist from Payton Horn.

Earlham finished with eight shots to Manchester's three, with the Spartans holding a 4-1 advantage is corner kicks. Quakers keeper Maria Young recorded a pair of saves in the Earlham goal, while Manchester keeper Becca Colbert was challenged twice and failed to make a save.

Earlham women's soccer continues its three-game home stand on Wednesday, March 17, when the Quakers host Bluffton University. Game time at Darrell Beane Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m.
