Cameron Jackson scored the lone Earlham College goal in the game's waning seconds to help the Quakers avoid the shutout in a 13-1 loss to visiting Monmouth College, Friday night at Darrell Beane Stadium.
Earlham fell to 1-5 with the loss while Monmouth improved to 2-0.
Monmouth notched three goals in the opening quarter in the span of less than a minute-and-a-half, and added four more in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead into the halftime intermission. Jeff Knapp recorded three of the Fighting Scots' first-half goals while Kain Donohoo accounted for a pair.
The Scots carried their momentum into the third quarter with three more goals from Knapp, extending Monmouth's lead to 10-0.
Korbyn Personett notched three goals in the fourth quarter to put Monmouth in front 13-0. Jackson beat Monmouth back-up goalie Nehemiah Declaw with six seconds showing on the clock to spoil the Fighting Scots' shutout bid, with
Avery Rush-Elias getting credit for the assist.
Monmouth outshot Earlham, 45-19, and the Scots scooped up 43 ground balls to the Quakers' 24.
Earlham men's lacrosse continues its home stand on Wednesday, March 31, when the Quakers host Hanover College in a non-conference matchup. Game time at Darrell Beane Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
