LOCATION: Richmond, Indiana (Darrell Beane Stadium)

RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College second year attackman Sam Sargent erupted for six goals – one shy of the six he scored in all four Earlham games in 2020 – with three assists for nine points to lead the Quakers past visiting Edgewood College, 16-2, on Tuesday evening at Darrell Beane Stadium.

The win lifted Earlham to 1-2 on the season, and marked the first head coaching victory for Earlham Head Coach Blake Keenan.

Earlham got on the scoreboard early in the opening quarter, putting up its first marker just 57 seconds into the game with Cameron Jackson's strike off an assist from Sargent. Sargent notched his first of the game with 9:03 showing on the first quarter clock, capping the scoring in the frame with Earlham holding a 2-0 lead.

The Quakers' offense found its high gear in the second quarter, posting eight goals to head into the halftime intermission with a 10-1 advantage. Sargent tallied three goals in the period, while junior Avery Rush-Elias scored his first collegiate goal at the 2:07 mark of the frame.

Sargent found the back of the Eagles' goal 35 seconds into the second quarter, with Edgewood's Avery Bugaj responding at the 12:19 mark of the period. The Quakers tallied three goals in less than two minutes to hold a 6-1 lead with 4:41 showing on the second quarter game clock, and another four-goal outburst over the final four-and-a-half minutes of the period extended Earlham's lead to 10-1.

Reihing scored at the 6:01 mark of the third to pick up his second goal of the night, and Edgewood's Dylan Bondeson scored barely three minutes later to make the score 11-2. Sargent tallied an EMO goal with 2:36 showing on the third quarter clock, and the Quakers finished the frame with a 12-2 lead.

The Quakers tacked on four more goals in the fourth quarter, including one more from Reihing and two from Jackson which completed hat-tricks for both players. First year Donovan Shea scored with five seconds showing on the game clock, giving the Colorado Springs, Colorado, native his first collegiate goal.

Earlham outshot Edgewood, 42-32, and the Quakers finished with a 35-28 advantage in ground balls. Quakers goalie Steven Shaughnessy finished the day with 14 saves for his first victory, while Edgewood goalie Nick Fiske charted 13 saves.

Earlham men's lacrosse returns to action on Friday, March 12, when the Quakers travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana, to face Wabash College. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
