SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Earlham College field hockey team returned to form with a 3-0 win over Wittenberg University on Tuesday evening.
The Quakers improved to 7-1 while the Tigers fell to 4-3.
All three of the Earlham goals came in the final quarter of play.
The Quakers took four shots on goal in the first half but were unable to slip one past the Tiger goalkeeper.
Kate Neal broke the scoreless tie less than two minutes into the fourth quarter on a rebound from a blocked shot.
Six minutes later,
Meredith McGraw increased the Earlham lead with a penalty stroke goal.
The final goal was scored in the 56th minute by
Guin Schalck. The Wittenberg goalkeeper made two saves on successive shots leading up to the goal, but Schalck received the rebound in a position to make an easy score.
Earlham out-shot the Tigers (17-6) and led in shots on goal (13-3). The Quakers also tallied 10 penalty corners compared to just three for Wittenberg.
Meg Murphy collected three saves in the win.
The Quakers will host Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday in Darrell Beane Stadium. The match is slated for a noon start time.
