RICHMOND -- The Earlham College field hockey team defeated Ohio Wesleyan University 2-0 in Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday.
The Quakers improved to 8-1 while the Bishops fell to 3-2.
Both of the Quaker goals came in the first period of play.
Denise Bergdolt found the back of the net in just the second minute of play. Bergdolt found an opening on a penalty corner from
Molly McKellar who was credited with the assist.
Earlham's second goal came in the final two minutes of the first frame. McKellar went to Bergdolt on a penalty corner but Bergdolt laid the ball off to
Olivia Layne who knocked it in for the score.
The Bishops found their footing in the game after the first quarter and kept Earlham in its own defensive area for much of the remainder of the game.
Ohio Wesleyan out-shot the Quakers 10-3 and put six of its shots on target. Seven of the 10 shots were taken in the second half of play.
Meg Murphy made six saves on the afternoon in goal.
