Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer scratched by Tigers

RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Earlham College men's soccer team led early but was defeated by Wittenberg University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Quakers fell to 0-6 while the Tigers improved to 5-2-2.

Earlham was on the scoreboard early, Quentin Berry scored his first goal of the season in the 12th minute. The sophomore from Zionsville managed to put his body on an awkwardly-bouncing ball in the penalty area for the score. The assist was credited to Devin Fitzgibbon on the cross.

Undeterred, the Tigers responded with a goal in the 20th minute off of a corner kick.

The two teams ended the half locked at 1-1, with Wittenberg holding a slight advantage in shots (8-7).

The Tigers took the lead on a penalty kick after an unfortunate handling call against the Quaker defense in the 73rd minute.

Wittenberg put the game away for good in the 81st minute with another goal off of a series of corner kicks.

Caleb Wilgen led the Quakers in shots with three, two of which were on goal.

Tyler Smith made nine saves in front of the goal, including two diving saves on long-distance shots.

Earlham will return to action on Saturday as Baldwin Wallace University comes to Matlack-Messer Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
