CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Earlham College volleyball squad picked up a pair of wins at the Case Western Reserve University Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The Quakers opened the second day of the event with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 win over Bethany College before closing out with a 25-16, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22 victory over Case Western.
"We had a solid performance this weekend," Earlham Head Coach
Lauren Horton said of her team's 3-1 mark in Cleveland. "We had a lot of individual achievements and milestones, but none of them could have been accomplished without every member of the team playing their role. Our contribution across-the-board speaks volumes to our depth and skill level this year."
Maria Young had a career-high 21 kills against Case Western, while
Sarah Dickman added 17.
After setting a career-high in assists on Friday night with 55 in Earlham's win over John Carroll University,
Erin Wagner topped that effort with 58 against Case Western.
Caroline Mulvihill and
Giselle Mora each added nine kills to help Wagner establish a new Earlham mark in assists per set with 14.5. Young and Wagner each had three service aces.
Defensively,
Jennifer Shamel set a new personal best with 35 digs.
Akiko Tajima finished with 29 digs. Wagner added to her day with a career-high 20 digs.
Olivia Kyrk had three blocks.
Against Bethany, Young led Earlham with 10 kills as Kyrk and Mulvihill had seven apiece. All three finished with two blocks each.
Wagner had 23 assists, while Shamel led the way with 19 digs.
The Quakers (3-2) head to the Illinois Wesleyan University Holiday Inn Express Tournament next weekend on Sept. 10-11. Earlham's opener is against Benedictine University (1-3) on Friday at 2 p.m.
