RICHMOND – The Earlham College women's basketball team fell to Bluffton University in the Quakers' first game in over three weeks due to COVID-19 cancellations. The Beavers took charge of the contest with a 62-50 win.
The Quakers fell to 0-11 (0-4 HCAC) while the Beavers improved to 8-5 (3-3 HCAC).
Freshmen
Janaiya Bright and
Amari Bradford led all scorers on the evening with 14 and 12 points respectively. Bradford also tallied a game-high 10 rebounds.
After scoring first, the Quakers gave up a 15-point run through the first nine minutes of play and trailed 20-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Earlham steadily improved its shooting percentage as the game went on, eventually reaching a mark of 44% in the final frame. After trailing 50-29 heading into the fourth quarter, the Quakers out-scored Bluffton 21-12, aided by a 12-0 run in the middle of the quarter.
Earlham will travel to Mount St. Joseph on Saturday for a doubleheader with the men's team. The women will start the day at 1 pm with the men's contest following.
