RICHMOND – The Earlham College women's basketball team continued its 2021-22 season with a loss to Defiance College 80-64 on Wednesday evening.
The Quakers fell to 0-12 (0-5 HCAC) while the Yellow Jackets improved to 7-5 (3-4 HCAC).
Neely Trenshaw led the offense with a career-high 17 points.
Alexis Gibson led the Quaker rebounding efforts with six boards.
The Quakers struggled to gain any footing offensively until the fourth quarter. The home team made 12-of-18 in the final frame but failed to reach above 50% in the rest of the contest. The Yellow Jackets were out-scored by 10 points in the final frame and were held to their lowest scoring quarter of the evening.
A 16-2 run began the final period for Earlham and nearly halved the deficit. The Quakers were too far back to mount a full comeback, but the quarter showed momentum to be carried into future games.
Earlham will travel to Manchester University on Saturday for a doubleheader contest between the men's and women's teams. Tip-off for the women's contest is slated for 1 pm.
